Three Day Instructor Training

The most comprehensive training is an 18 hour course presented over three days. The Three-Day training qualifies participants to use all supporting PREP materials. The Instructors are prepared to conduct PREP in all of the various formats (e.g., 6 week, weekend, One-Day with two evening follow-up, One-Day only, etc.).
People trained in either PREP or Christian PREP are qualified to offer both programs without additional training.

Topics to be Covered:

  • An extensive overview of research and theory supporting Marital Education

  • An overview of key risk factors for marital distress and divorce.

  • Communication skills training to help couples reduce negative interaction and handle conflict constructively.

  • A problem solving method that works.

  • A cognitive framework for helping couples understand and discuss expectations.

  • A framework for understanding, building, and maintaining commitment.

  • Strategies for helping couples maintain friendship, fun and intimacy.

  • A framework for enhancing exploring honor, respect, intimacy and forgiveness in marriage.

    • Christian PREP trainings integrate a theological framework of understanding for marital health and distress.

    Standard Materials for Three-Day Training:
    Typically, the three day training includes core materials: The PREP Instructor Kit (One Leader Manual, Coach Manual, Couple Manual and Notes for Couples, Research Measures, Research Articles, Sample Schedules, Sample Marketing Materials and more) and the book (Fighting for Your Marriage or A Lasting Promise).

    Extra Materials Available:
     PREP videos and/or Power Point® (or overhead) resources geared to presenting Workshops for Couples are available for purchase.
